Meetings in Australian Music
12-17 April 2005
The first edition of this project, Encounters: Meetings in Australian Music, critically traced 200 years of musical interactions between Aboriginal and European cultures on Australian soil. It was realised by Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre in April 2005, and won both the state and national award for “Outstanding Contribution by an Organisation” in the prestigious 2006 Australasian Performing Rights Association and Australian Music Centre Classical Music Awards.

It was an extraordinary meeting of different musical backgrounds to form an entirely new cultural music: the harmonious sound of a combined heritage, white and black – a truly amazing experience, one that I still feel a deep sense of gratitude for having experienced.
